😲 Sometimes we need to say "No"

We talk a lot about giving dogs choice—and it’s true, choice IS powerful. Letting your dog opt out, explore, or decide when they’re ready builds confidence and trust. And many times, giving choice is exactly HOW we build confidence.

⚠️ But sometimes choice isn’t the best option.

As much as we train our reactivity games, as much as we try to set our dogs up for success, sometime the world just isn't set up for our reactive dogs.

⛔ Sometimes we need to say "no". Ok, we might not actually say no... maybe we say "None of your business" or "Not for you" .. but we train our dogs at home, away from triggers, that sometimes we are going to say that looking at that dog/squirrel/kid/man in a hat.. is simply off the table.

🥰 And we don't follow it up with a threat. It isn't "no, or else", not "no, or I'll hurt/scare you". There's a way to have this on autopilot so our dog understand and we can get them out of sticky situations without undoing a lot of our training.

That’s exactly what we cover in my 8-Week Leash Reactivity Deep Dive:
✔️ Teaching reliable, real-world strategies you and your dog can count on
✔️ Building muscle memory so neither you nor your dog freeze under pressure
✔️ Turning challenges into opportunities

✨ Enrollment is open now—but only until next week.

Give your dog more than just choice—give them the skills to succeed.

Tethered Cord Syndrome This post is intended to help others who are choosing not to pursue surgery for TCS, and to help people who care about Jubilee understand my 'why'. Jubilee has struggled with lameness and GI issues her entire life. She’ll turn seven in January. After seeing a top neurologist, we now have a probable diagnosis of Tethered Cord Syndrome. I’ve decided not to pursue surgery. Without surgery, I know she is unlikely to see her eighth birthday. That’s really hard. It sucks....

Engaged training Resilience * Emotional Regulation * Self Control I've seen a few posts going around lately advocating for use of tools that use pain or fear to apply stress to a dog to help them learn. The trainers promote the idea of a false dichotomy - either you bubble wrap your dog and never progress.. stuck in ineffective training, OR you use e-collars, prong collars, and other tools to either apply stress or to suppress behaviours when a dog is put into stressful situations.. Stress...
