Before we can actually train those triggers, we need some games and skills in place to help us manage them. Did you know there’s a big difference between training and managing?

If we jump straight into the training games and something unexpected happens—like a surprise dog or we accidentally get a little too close or a little too far—we can end up in a tricky (and maybe scary) situation… for both us and our dog. 😬

That’s why Step 2 of my Roadmap to Leash Reactivity is all about anticipating surprises and having safe “get out of trouble” skills in place—skills that are in your muscle memory before the real challenge shows up.
